Living Subud Photo Journals by Simón Cherpitel

concept from Matthew Clark

In early 2008, Matthew Clark suggested that during my travels to develop The World, the Search and Subud, I might record visits to Subud members in the form of foto journals.

Perhaps these foto visits to people, groups and regions will help our awareness of being interconnected with other members in the world, or feel closer in some nebulous way.

We know were nothing special ourselves. What is special is the contact with the Power of God we have received thru Subud and how it affects our lives.

Despite our current capability to communicate easily and instantly via voice or internet, we live in vastly different and widely separated locations over the world.

Beyond the similarity of living in this world, our outer lives are quite different, while our essential similarity is beyond our ability to express.

Regardless of our involvement or lack of involvement in local Subud groups, I prefer to believe most of us today are following the receiving in our individual lives.

I also believe the last words we received from Bapak via Varindra at the 1993 Congress: Bureaucratic attention to rules can destroy Subud as a way for spreading the Receiving.

2008 - 2011: Visits to groups and members in most of the USA and Canada. (Since late 2008 accompanied by partner Henrietta McCormack.) So far our travels in the USA & Canada, always by car, cover about 50,000 miles and 14,000 fotos, edited to about 1,600 image screens and 2,500 fotos, costing about $20,000 in film and gas. About 1/3rd is defrayed by contributions. Thank you. - Simn (July 2011)

Living Subud
foto travel journals

Henrietta McCormack and I spend 60 days in Indonesia: 12 in Java, 2 in Bali & 47 in Kalimantan. With a hi-res digital camera, I shoot over 20,000 fotos, editing them to 1,500 on 1,000 image screens for 10 new imageStories. The Indonesia 1971 and 1981 has 74 images shot on 2 previous visits. We love Rungan Sari, despite the sweltering heat and limited good food---it is alive---more alive than any other place weve seen in the Subud world.
